When you have a smoke damage house there is still a lot of work to be done after the fire has been put out. Getting the smell of smoke out of your home is an important step because if it isn’t done quickly and correctly the smoke can linger causing damage weeks after the fire ended.

On the bright side, if you follow these simple steps you will quickly be on your way to returning your house to a home:

  • Ventilate the room or rooms that where affected by smoke. Letting the clean air in will help remove the odor of smoke.
  • Clean any surface that was damaged by the fire. By cleaning all of the surfaces you are insuring that the smoke hasn’t sunk into any of your belongings
  • Remember it is of the upmost importantance to wear the correct safety gear including gloves, boots, and masks when clearing out and cleaning up after a fire

Before you start any of the clean up process remember to properly photograph the damaged areas so that your insurance company will be able to assist you better when you are making your claim.

If the damaged areas exceed what you can safely handle and you are finding it hard to clear that smoky smell from your house, it is best to hire a professional restoration company to come in and handle it quickly and efficiently. We are always happy to provide a free in-home estimate to help you decide how to move forward, and we are experienced working with insurance adjusters and know how to advocate for your rights.
