In these times of crisis, it is good to know where the future is headed. Here we have compiled a list of some of the most recent updates from the Centers for Disease Control to help keep you up to date on the latest news surrounding COVID-19.

covid 19 week 17

While levels of flu-like illness have remained elevated in the northeast and northwestern parts of the country, overall, there has been a decline in positive tests. Additionally, emergency medical visits and visits to outpatient providers for COVID-like symptoms has seen a decline as well. Widespread practicing and adoption of practices such as social distancing and a greater focus on personal healthcare behaviors could be a significant factor in these decreases.

The overall hospitalization rate associated with coronavirus is about 40.4 people per 100,000, which is around 0.0004%, with the highest rates being in people 65 years and older. However, this still shows that hospitalization rates for adults ages 18-64 is still higher than typical flu seasons.

We are currently in week 17 of the coronavirus crisis. Based on recent death certificate data, flu, pneumonia, or COVID-related deaths have decreased by 9% over the past week. While this is the second week we have seen a decline, the percentage of deaths is still high compared to that of a seasonal influenza.

While the data shows a promising decline in coronavirus cases, it can still change over the next few weeks. Easing quarantine and social distancing restrictions too quickly could spur an uptick in cases if not handled with care. Be sure to stay safe, and practice social distancing and good hygiene as we continue to move through this. Continue to use proper disinfecting techniques, and keep your places of work and home safe.
