Water Damage, San Diego and El Nino Preparation Tips, Part 4

Posted by Cindy Desmet on Wed, Nov 04, 2015

Here is Part 4, the final installment of our 2015 El Nino Preparation series, focusing on information and references on the phenomenon of El Nino. This year's El Nino is predicted to be a big one, with forecasted widespread flooding and a negative economic impact on the San Diego area. As flood restoration specialists, we (Clean Earth Restorations) wanted to put together a list of tips that will help you prepare for El Nino and avoid water damage. San Diego customers can count on us to respond 24/7 for any flooding emergency.

If you didn't see them already, Parts 1 (administrative tips) and 2 (indoor preparation) and Part 3 (outdoor preparation) are also full of good tips.

Here are some great resources regarding El Nino and preparing for an El Nino winter

El Nino - What is It?

A simple yet informative video via the New York Times

And another version by the Met Office, the National Weather Service for the UK.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has a FAQ page that answers basic (but interesting) questions about El Nino.

The National Geographic also has a great section on their website devoted to understanding El Nino.

What's going to happen during the 2015 El Nino?

A comparison of El Nino 1997 vs 2015 (via the LA Times). Hint: the red part is important. Read the rest of the article here.

NBC San Diego did a great report last month on the past and possible future effects of El Ninos on San Diego: There are 6 highly informative videos that discuss what causes El Nino, how to prepare for the predicted severe winter, the effects on the economy and the ecology of our area, and other El Nino facts.

The ENSO blog is where U.S. climate experts monitor and forecast El Nino, La Nina and their impacts. (Get yer nerd on! Just kidding, ;) great info!)

How will the 2015 El Nino affect me?

Find out if your property is in a flood zone by checking FEMA's Flood Map Service Center.
