What Should You Have in an Emergency Supply Kit? | Fire and Flood Restoration Tips

Posted by Cindy Desmet on Fri, Jan 16, 2015

Most of us will never need to use our emergency supply kits, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have them -- easily accessible, up-to-date, and ready to use. Clean Earth Restorations has compiled a list of resources to help you put together the best emergency kit possible.

Emergency checklist

Most disaster management directives suggest having an emergency kit that can keep you fed, hydrated, and patched up (in the event of injury) for a minimum of 72 hours. Our list below provides you with information on what to put in your kit, where to buy ready-made kits, and where to find more emergency preparation information, so you can be prepared for a flood, a fire, an earthquake, or any other kind of emergency.

1. These sites provide comprehensive lists of what you should consider keeping in your home emergency kits:  SDGE's Emergency Supply Kit, the Red Cross Emergency Disaster Kit, or FEMA's Emergency Supply List

2. If you don't have time to put together a kit yourself, try a ready-made kit such as the ones available at Costco.

3. San Diego residents should know about this site, ReadyDiego.org, for helpful information regarding fire, flooding, tsunami, pandemic influrenza, and terrorism preparedness.

As many San Diego County residents know first-hand, having an evacuation plan and an emergency kit is very important in our dry and fire-prone climate. But even a sewage back-up can make your home unlivable temporarily and it's always a good idea to have a survival kit that you can use while you're dealing with such an emergency, whether you're staying in your RV or sleeping on your friend's living room floor.

If you are dealing with fire and smoke damage, a sewage back up or a flood, please contact us today -- we are happy to give you a free estimate on remediation and restoration and get you back to normal as quickly as possible.
